YG vs non-YG, who could beat BIGBANG in end-of-year music awards?

[OSEN=박소영 기자] Only two month are left until the end of the year 2015. As the end-of-year holiday season is coming up, the music scene is getting excited again, with end-of-year music awards waiting for music fans. Beginning from “2015 Melon Music Awards” on November 7, a variety of music awards including “2015 MAMA” and terrestrial TV network’s music awards will be held until early next year. As the renewal of contract between YG and BIGBANG has been officially announced on November 2, music fans are now paying keen attention to who will be the winners of those end-of-year music awards. BIGBANG who has been carrying out hectic schedule recently confirmed their performance at the Melon music awards only. Whether BIGBANG will perform at “MAMA” is not clear yet, as MAMA is just saying, “we’re still listing nominees”.
Even though the grand prize of such music awards bears less significant meaning these days compared to in the past, as more prizes are given by different segments, the winner of the grand prize has to be selected anyway. The biggest focus of interest now is who will be the winners of men’s and women’s rookie awards, album of the year awards, song of the year awards, and singer of the year awards. Although a little bit premature, music fans are already enjoyably predicting the winners of those awards.
The most remarkable thing for this year’s music scene is great success of YG. So, it is highly likely that YG singers will compete again other YG singers, for the prizes at the music awards.
BIGBANG’s domination of music charts stood out this year. Starting from “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” released on May 1, BIGBANG’s “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” released in June, “SOBER” and “IF YOU” in July, and “LET’S NOT FALL IN LOVE” and “ZUTTER” in August swept the music scene.

Such big success made this year’s summer “the season of BIGBANG”. BIGBANG’s new songs released from May to August swept the No.1 in not only music charts but also TV music shows. The only rival of BIGBANG to compete for the No.1 place was BIGBANG themselves.
Then, the baton was passed to iKON, the “monstrous rookie”. iKON’s “MY TYPE” released in mid-September dominated music charts even before the team’s official debut. “RHYTHM TA” and “AIRPLANE” released with iKON’s official debut on October 1 also fascinated music fans immediately.
However, SM Entertainment, YG’s rival label, also made outstanding achievements this year. SHINee who released “View” in May, Super Junior who released their 10th anniversary album, and solo vocalists including Jong-Hyun, Tae-Yeon, and Kyu-Hyeon also made remarkable achievements this year.
In terms of records on music charts, past hit songs that stood under a new spotlight after being performed in MBC TV’s “The Infinite Challenge – Saturday Music Show” created sensation in the first half of this year. Then, in the second half, hip-hop songs drew big attention because of the popularity of “Show Me the Money 4”. Songs and singers of different genres have been loved by music fans in the second half of this year.
Now, music fans are paying keen attention to whether YG Entertainment will sweep the end-of-year music awards or another dark horse will arise to compete against YG.
