Big Bang Makes Hearts Throb, Heads Explode in Seoul

Big Bang just kicked off their Big Bang Alive world Tour last weekend with three sold-out concerts in Seoul in front of more than 30,000 fans. As this is a Korea-focused technology and design blog we dispatched our secret K-pop loving staffer to the Olympic Park Gymnastics Stadium in southern Seoul to check out the show.

Here's what she had to say:

Music: Big Bang is always a high energy band to watch. This year they brought in an elite group of instrumental musicians from overseas to liven up their back-up track, the first Korean band to do so at a solo concert. Having live musicians playing behind the band really set this concert apart from other K-pop concerts I've been to. While "Hands Up" is still my favorite Big Bang song EVER, I really loved their acoustic performance of "Haru Haru". Sigh!

Technology: I love Big Bang but I think even people who aren't fans of the band had a good time at this show. It was pure entertainment. The pyrotechnics were the biggest I've ever seen at a concert in Korea and must have required precision planning. The stage extended out into the audience bringing the band closer (YES!) to their fans. And, for people who like the band as much for how it looks as for how it sounds, there were giant Full HD screens on either side of the stage. I've never seen screens like that at a concert anywhere before, apart from the Beyoncé concert held at the same venue two years ago.

Design: Fan faves G Dragon and TOP came out, with TOP rocking his blue (!) hair, utilizing 4 different elevator platforms that went up from and down into the stage floor. Daesung even flew above the packed stadium audience's heads on wires with angel wings! So many costume changes, I couldn't even count and Taeyang at one point even ripped his shirt OFF! You could tell they invested a lot of time and effort into the creative design of the concert, employing giant beach balls with the members inside and rolled over the audience in during the encore – something I've only ever really seen at concerts back home in the US.

Overall: The entire experience was incredible, the fans singing along in the glow of their flower-shaped "BB" (for Big Bang!) fluorescent sticks, and the combined energy of the group and their band was really a sight to behold.

And great news for the ever-growing K-pop fan base around the world, as concert production company Live Nation will be promoting and producing the world tour, which will take Big Bang through Asia, North and South America, and Europe, performing in 25 cities in 16 countries.

Here's hoping Big Bang makes it to YOUR city, as this was a feast for the eyes and ears you will not want to miss!

Japanese Media shows a lot of interest in Big Bang's comeback

The Japanese media is showing high interest in idol group Big Bang‘s recent comeback.

On March 5th, sources such as Daily Sports, Sports Hochi, Nikkan Sports, Sankei Sports, Sports Nippon, Tokyo Chunichi Sports, and more reported news of Big Bang’s ‘2012 BIG SHOW/BIG BANG ALIVE TOUR‘ that began in Seoul on March 2nd.

 

Daily Sports reported, “Big Bang’s phenomenal start out into the world“, while Sankei Sports said, “Big Bang influences the world“, and Tokyo Chunichi Sports reported, “Big Bang kicks off the greatest world tour in all of Asian history!”

 

For this tour, Big Bang is teaming with Live Nation and creative director Laurieann Gibson. After their performances in Seoul, the highly-anticipated tour will continue in Japan.

 

The Japanese media also reported the specific dates of the 10 performances to take place in 5 cities across Japan, further heightening fans’ excitement.

 For those of you who missed the dates, the Japan performances for Big Bang’s World Tour will take place as follows:

• May 17 & 18 - Aichi Prefecture (Nippon Gaishi Hall)


• May 26 & 27 – Yokohama (Yokohama Arena)


• June 1 & 2 – Osaka (Osaka-jo Hall)


• June 16 & 17 – Saitama (Saitama Arena)


• June 23 & 24 – Fukuoka (Marine Messe)

With Seoul and these 5 cities revealed, it seems there will be 19 cities left to be announced out of the total 25 cities in the world tour.

Big Bang Holds "Alive" Concert

The performance came after a year-long wait, and the mischievous and chatty Big Bang we were so used to seeing was nowhere to be found. “We just wanted to fight with our music and our performances,” Daesung said during the concert, and the other members indeed seemed to agree, as they showed they were being serious from start to finish.

 Big Bang met with 39,000 of its fans in its exclusive concert held from March 2-4 in Seoul, the 2012 Big Show/Big Bang Alive Tour.In the three concerts, in front of a near total of 40,000 fans, Big Bang indeed proved it was ‘Alive’.The performance opened up with a blinding video featuring the members in an outer space setting. The members then appeared in person onstage to perform the Intro of its fifth mini album Alive, which was released on February 29, and ran right into Tonight, plunging their fans into a frenzy in just a few minutes.

 The performance was all the more meaningful of course because it was the group’s first in a long time, but also because it was the first day fans would get to see the group perform the singles from its most recent mini album. Passionate performances of the Intro, Fantastic Baby, Bad Boy, No Fun, Blue, Love Dust and Daesung’s solo pieceWing all reminded the audience just what Big Bang was really about.The many incidents the group had to endure in 2011 made the concert even more passionate and serious. The members rarely even stopped to talk in between performances. As if they wanted to let out all the energy they had kept bottled up inside them during the past year, the members continued to sprint forward with all their might from start to finish, never stopping to so much as take a breath.There were no parody videos, a well-known trademark of Big Bang concerts. “We didn’t make a parody video on purpose this time,” Daesung said. “We just wanted to fight with our music and our performances.”“It’s great to see you again. A lot of things happened, but I’m thankful you’re still here. I’ll never make you worried again,” G-Dragon said. “Big Bang will become a group that draws out not disappointment or concern, but rather anticipation. I’ll work harder.”


Their passion onstage lived up to that determination, continuing to burn all through the colorful two-hour-long performance. G-Dragon and T.O.P., who had broken off from the group before as a unit, performed Knock Out and High High, Seungri showed off his stage manners with his solos Strong Baby and What Can I Do, Taeyang followed suit with his own solo pieces Don’t Cheat On Me and Wedding Dress and Daesung’s first performance of Wing added to the splendor.The group’s efforts over the past year shone through in the members’ solo feats, the group’s original hits including Haru Haru, Lie, Last Farewell and Sunset Glow and the fresh new performances of the new singles.Another reason why this concert was different was because it was the first collaborative effort between Big Bang and Live Nation, a show production company that has produced world tours for such pop figures as Madonna, U2 and Lady Gaga. Designers, sound engineers and session players with previous experience in global settings perfected the music and the atmosphere.Big Bang will continue on its world tour, which started with the Seoul concert, through 25 cities in 16 countries.

Han Ga In attends Big Bang’s Concert

Actress Han Ga In was spotted at the “2012 BIG SHOW BIG BANG ALIVE TOUR” in Seoul.

On the 3rd, a paparazzi-like photo of Han Ga In was uploaded on an online community bulletin board. In the photo, Han Ga In is seen staring directly at the stage, enjoying the concert in casual clothes.

She wasn’t seated in a special VIP area, rather she chose to attend the concert in standing area with the fans.
