[OSEN=선미경 기자] Another record has been set.
BIGBANG has set a new record. Their two music videos consecutively recorded 100 million hits on YouTube for the first time in Korea’s boy group history, and the number soon rose to 200 million. They continue to set new records, proving their power as Korea’s top boy group.
On January 19, the music video of ‘BANG BANG BANG’, which was released last year, registered 100 million hits on YouTube. This followed the 100 million-hit record of ‘FANTASTIC BABY’, which was uploaded on YouTube on March 6, 2012. It was the first time that a Korean boy group consecutively achieved 100 million hits.
Moreover, BIGBANG has set a new record as ‘FANTASTIC BABY’ surpassed 200 million views as of 9:35 pm on January 26. Now they have become the only Korean boy group with two 100-million YouTube views and the first Korean group with 200 million views. BIGBANG’s value has been proven again with their unrivaled records.
Indeed, the songs from their single albums and ‘MADE Project’ released from last May to August topped all the music charts every month. There was even a word like ‘BIGBANG vs. BIGBANG’ that described BIGBANG sweeping the music charts.
‘BANG BANG BANG’ took the top place on 2015 annual chart at Melon, Korea’s largest music streaming website. There were two more songs of them that ranked within the top 10, with ‘LOSER’ taking the 6th place and ‘BAE BAE’ taking the 7th. Similar results were also seen on Gaon’s 2015 annual chart.
BIGBANG’s records so far are milestones in the K-pop scene. They were the first to coin the word ‘mini-album’; ‘Lollipop”, which is a commercial song, stayed in the no.1 place on Melon for five consecutive weeks; and G-DRAGON’s solo-album ‘Heart Breaker’ succeeded in making all the songs in it take top ranks on charts. Moreover, they became the first Korean singer to make the main page of Grammy.com, and ‘ALIVE’, released in 2012, entered Billboard’s main chart for the first time for an album in the Korean language.
Eleven years have past since BIGBANG’s debut, but they are still popular, which certainly proves their power.
