Experts on Big Bang: #1 For One Full Week. How? “Went Beyond Fandom with Music”
A week after the release of Big Bang’s new single “Made Series: M”, their new tracks “Loser” and “Bae Bae” are still on top of music charts. “Loser”, in particular, is still holding the #1 position on major music charts and has hit Melon’s “roof” (a term used when a song gets the highest-possible points) 45 times.
Popular music critic Kang Taegyu spoke with Star News on May 7th and commented on Big Bang’s success, “As we can see with ‘Bae Bae’, when it comes to music, fandom is not the only factor Big Bang considers.”
He added, “Big Bang’s music has mainstream appeal and this what sets them apart from other idol groups. Their songs attract people other than just their fans. That is Big Bang’s power and the new songs demonstrate this clearly.”

He continued, “Music created simply for the artist’s self-satisfaction and fans cannot last. Big Bang has moved beyond that with their music, and equipped with a trendy image, they’re doing it very well.”
“Even if you are not a fan, they make you listen to their music and that’s how they expand their fan base. That’s what Big Bang is about.”
SBS’s K-Pop Star producer Park Seonghoon also gave his thoughts on the success of Big Bang’s new songs. He shared, “Loser is all about a familiar and warm melody combined with Big Bang’s sophisticated sound. It has this children’s song factor in it and also evokes a sentiment familiar to Korean culture. Bae Bae is a ballad, but the rap makes it absolutely unique.”
Park added, “People nowadays tend to listen more to sentimental music. Big Bang did exactly that with their newest tracks. Previously [as a Kpop group] they placed a lot of emphasis on triggering the sentiment of international fans, but with these ones, they focused more on the Korean side.”
All eyes are on Big Bang to see how long their track will last in the superior position.
