TAEYANG @ Angel Price Music Festival

Today was the Angel Price Music Festival at Lotte World. I managed to snag tickets via my equally Big Bang obsessed (and 31-years-old) co-teacher, Hyunsun. Actually, I heard about this concert like yesterday basically and I told her about because I didn’t think we could get tickets and I wasn’t sure I could go, but sure enough, she found them and bought them and so here I am posting about it.

Lotte World is an amusement park in Seoul. It’s half indoors and half outdoors. It’s pretty cool. I’ve been twice, plus one additional time to go to the ice rink located on the first floor. The concert, incidentally was held on the ice rink, which was covered, but cool to the touch, which is kind of interesting. 

The festival was held in different sections each with different artists (including SNSD, Big Bang, 2ne1, MBLAQ, TVXQ and IU) You had to buy tickets for each section, so I only bought tickets for Big Bang because, well, who gives a crap about the others when Big Bang is an option.

Anyways, while I was waiting, my co-teacher rushed me over to the back behind the stage, where the artists entered and exited. We got there just as MBLAQ was finishing, and so we were really close and Lee Joon walked right by me and I took this immaculate profile picture of beautiful beautiful Lee Joon. I will post all pictures in the following post.

Then, 2ne1 cam through and they looked gorgeous. No pictures, they kind of snuck up because you couldn’t see them coming from that way. But, when they were walking to go on stage, I screamed out Bom!! and she turned and waved right at me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited. They all looked super gorgeous, and Dara’s short haircut is BEAUTIFUL.

Then we walked around Lotte World and rode a ride and took some pictures in the park.

Finally it was time to get to our seats. All the seats were assigned and it was random (super bizarre). My seat was way left of center stage and I was kind of bummed, even though I was really close (9th row) but then, the MC came out and everyone bum rushed the closest places. I hauled ass towards the middle and up. Managed to get 8th row and almost in the middle section.

The MC was talking and I UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING!!!! That was exciting. Anyways, he was killing time because Big Bang was late. And he asked for people to raise their hands and say who was their favorite member, and I was raising my hand frantically and a camera showed me on a big screen close up. But he didn’t pick me. SOOOO SAD because those girls he did pick got special fan service. I WAS SO SAD, and so were the people near me because it would have been awesome. He picked this other foreigner, a French Girl, I think, but she didn’t speak Korean, and I kept thinking, I COULD TALK TO YOU MBC MC MAN!! WHY DIDN’T YOU PICK ME!!??

But then I recovered and the show started and it was amazing, even though it was really short. Only five songs:

HOLY CRAP they were amazing. Fan Cams (3) are already queued on my youtube channel but they won’t be viewable for maybe 2 more hours or more. But check them out!

Then, after the show, I ran to the back where I saw 2ne1 and everyone and I GOT TO SEE BIG BANG AGAIN WITHIN LIKE 5 FEET!!! THEY ARE SO EFFFFFFFING SEXY OH MY GOD I ALMOST DIED.

My BOYS. Basically I’ve been dying a little bit more each day that I’ve been in Korea and haven’t seen/met/exchanged eye contact with them from across a crowded room. So when this Angel Price Music Festival was announced I knew I had to go. Many thanks to my new friends Diane & Christina who scored our tickets. And so finally, after 7 weeks of being in Seoul, I saw the 5 members of Big Bang with my very own eyeballs.

and. it. was. glorious.

While we were pretty close for 2NE1…we were even closer for Big Bang. 4th row, center. I could see the scruff of Taeyang’s upper lip, and individual strands of TOP’s perfect hair.

Before every performance there’s an emcee who comes out and says some things. Basically to kill time while the next act sets up. But omg this emcee had to stall like crazy, which really just meant that he teased us mercilessly while we could hear fans who weren’t in the concert/couldn’t get tickets, scream because they could see Big Bang back stage. Let me just say, the anticipation was so intense that I started to cry a bit. I wasn’t crying because of the lag, but rather because it was actually happening. I mean, my heart was so full–the first time I would see them–and the moment couldn’t get there soon enough.

And when the boys finally came out, I practically burst. Let me just say that the boys look even better, sound even better, perform even better in person. And yes, it’s actually possible. When they come out, you know it. The sheer force of them hits you and you just get the wind knocked out of you. It’s so interesting to see the boys perform together as Big Bang because they are all so different, and its easy to see/know them as individuals but then they come together as the one group and you never know where to look because you don’t want to miss a thing. Even when they are all supposed to be doing the same thing, they’re all doing it just a tad bit different–maybe a hand motion, or a facial expression–and you want to see it all.

They had a bit of a fan talk either after tonight or after lies, and the emcee helped facilitate that. When TOP came out he had on these sunglasses (the same one’s from Inkigayo this same day) and the emcee made him take them off so the fans could see his eyes. Of course, crowd screamed like crazy. Each member introduced themselves. And Seungri actually stepped forward with his arms open, listening to the crowd scream for him. It was hilarious. And apparently GD thought so too since he cracked up but was shaking his head at maknae. Also, Daesung said something at the end of the talk that made Bae laugh and kind of punch Dae’s shoulder. Oh Bae, so violent these days ^^

Daesung is also the happiest performer ever. He kept laughing at things when he thought no one was looking/it wasnt his turn to sing. And even in some of his parts, where all the rest of the boys did sort of fierce poses, Daesung would just smile and wave. It was super cute and the boy sounds even more glorious live. Love him to bits.

Taeyang worked that stage like he owned it. He was the one that came closest to the front, coming all the way to the edge of the stage, in the center–of course in the center. Forever hairstyle, forever center. He really is a bitty guy, fun sized, but what he lacks in height he makes up for in sheer performance art. His movements are like liquid art in motion. Oh, there was like a big taeyang fan club sitting in the second row, so he said hello specially for them.

Seungri really is fanservice king. Aside from the thing he bit he did during their talk, he was the one who interacted the most with fans, as usual. I don’t know if it was because he is super playful or what, but maknae was being all sorts of adorable tonight. playing with fans, playing with the emcee, even sticking his tongue out as they were exiting the stage. Seungri is also a really good performer and he really gives it his all.

GD. Oh GD. I’m not sure, but maybe GD was tired. It wasn’t that he particularly looked tired, or that he didn’t perform well, or that he didn’t sound good–because he did, always–but to be honest I didn’t see him smile or seem like he was enjoying himself on stage. However, this could also be serious GD that I have heard about but hadn’t witnessed in person. Now that I’m thinking about it, he pretty much performs the way he does on music shows, so now I’m wondering why I don’t think he’s unhappy on music shows, but think he’s tired or something now that I’ve seen him live. I have to think about this more. It was sort of amazing though, to see him in person. I mean, made Lies & Haru Haru & Love Song and all of these other songs that I know and love and listen to all the time…and he made them. And he’s right in front of me. It was an awing moment, for sure. Also, he is really really skinny. He honestly needs to eat something. But he had on these fantastic shoe/ankle accessories. They were like ankle bracelets. Boy is a fashionista.

And finally, TOP. My handsome, bingu, forever stiff Tabi. I finally saw his stiff dancing in real life. And omg it was amazing. And my eyes cried tears of joy at the sight of him, my ears melted at the sound of his voice, my heart pounded when his finger twirled. I can’t even explain him. During his parts he’d kill it like a BAMF, but then he’d go dance in the back and you can see him looking out of the side of his eye to make sure he’s dancing the right thing. During one song, Last Farewell I believe, he wasn’t in the right place so he and a dancer were together and I could see the dancer laughing at TOP. He needs to stop wearing his leather jacket all zipped up. During the fantalk he kept fidgeting with it. Like it was too hot so he wanted to take it off, or maybe his shirt underneath was hiking up and he wanted to fix it, but whatever it was, basically TOP needs to get rid of all his jackets and only wear v neck tshirts. Oh, and also just before Last Farewell, it seemed something was wrong with one of TOP’s eyes. Like something had gotten in it. Because he kept squinting it. This made for some HILARIOUS facial expressions while he was jump rope dancing ^^

After the concert was over, fans kept shouting for an encore, but we didn’t get one. The boys had gone into this white tent right behind the stage, and basically everyone rushed out of the venue to where the tent was so that they could see the boys one more time. Daesung went first, then Seungri I think, and then Tae TOP and finally GD. I think it was GD who waved to the crowds–I couldn’t be sure bc I was a little far away and there was this security guard who kept telling me I had to leave.

Also, kVIPs do not mess around. There were fans with super telephoto lenses, fans with their cameras propped up on tripods, fans who had rigged their video cams so that they look like black boxes because all their lights have been tapped over with black tape (aka if you are a security guard looking at a crowed trying to look for little lights that give away recording devices you wont find them), and some who even crafted fake signboards that had a cut out where their lens would go through. It was crazy but also really cool to see!

In sum, Big Bang is amazing and I must find every opportunity to see them/meet them/make them mine.
